Leichardt Falls 16/8/2013

The wildlife assembled this morning to announce the start of a new day, just about every Kookaburra in Qld sat in the trees around the camp and sang the sunrise in, the remarkable Australian Dawn chorus. The call of the Kookaburra was supported  by the trilling of birds and the lowing of cows – a truly magnificent way to be woken.

We took our time getting  going this morning, we packed away our beach clothes and brought out the outback clothes – definitely have to dress the part lol. We took our time stopping along the way to check out some of the amazing scenery and of course take photo’s.

Our aim was to reach Leichardt falls, a magnificent river system that we stopped at last year and  took photo’s at. By 5pm we realised that although we were only 50km away, it was too dangerous to carry on. We were driving due west and the sun was directly in our eyes, making it impossible to see the road properly or wildlife that may have wandered onto the road. We found a dry river bed and drove down it a way, then tucked ourselves behind a tree and set up camp.
