I was woken up at 7.30 with a very welcome cup of coffee
from my wonderful (and very clever for bringing the Nespresso machine) hubby.
We got dressed in our walking clothes and did a circuit around Port Douglas,
walking past the marina we discovered it was market day, so we had a quick
browse, discovered a few things we wanted, so decided to go back later – this
time with some money. We went onto the
beach and not really knowing where we were, found an exit and miraculously popped
out across the road from our accommodation. Talk about luck.
The swimming pool was right across from our room and looked
very inviting, so after a quick change into costumes we headed on over. The
water was decidedly fresh but was well worth getting in as I discovered that my
wrist seems to tolerate swimming quite well. We headed back to the room and
packed up the car. Before we left we made use of the BBQ/kitchenette area at
the pool to cook ourselves some breakfast.
After filling up with fuel and water (our water tank carries
100L) we headed for Cape Tribulation. It is such a beautiful part of the world,
the rainforest melds into the beach, and the sand is so soft it is like powder
under your feet. We found the campground at Noah beach, and what a spot! The
camp sites are all individual sites set among trees, and it is just a short
walk to the most amazing beach, we are in heaven.
We have no signal on any of our phones or computers and as we have to find accommodation for another 2 nights here – we are getting some work done on the Land Rover on Wednesday, and I have decided to have another cortisone injection in my wrist to see me through the next couple of weeks. We had to drive almost the whole way back to the ferry before we got reception, we booked accommodation, sent all the text messages we needed to send and drove back to Noah Beach.

Setting up for the first time was not as bad as I had
thought, we had to find a few things but overall it was pretty easy, I got
creative and made toasted ham and cheese sandwiches in the frying pan – it
worked really well. By 5.30 we had eaten, washed up and were walking on the
beach. When we got back we discovered by insect repellent was listed in the
essential items on the National Parks website – sandflies!
