Pre- dawn waking
seems to be the new normal, so we headed down to the beach to do some more
photography. This time we were well armed with insect repellent, so spent a lot
more time experimenting with different shots.
After breakfast we packed the car, and headed off to the
beach for a swim. The water was beautiful but I didn’t stay in long – I kept
having visions of a crocodile sneaking up on us followed by a possy of Irikanji
jelly fish in case we managed to get away from him! A refreshing cold shower
followed and then we headed up Cape Tribulation road.
We stopped at all the obligatory pit stops, but didn’t stay
long at any – there were too many tourists! On our way back down we stopped at
one of the convenience stores and there was a whole group of fellow Unimog enthusiasts
in their replica army ambulances. We had met then 2 years ago when they were on
tour, so we headed on over to catch up and listen to the trials and
tribulations of being on the road in Mogs not quite up to the standard Iain has
built ours. It is at times like this that I truly appreciate all the hard work
and thought that Iain has put into our Mog.
We spent a few more leisurely hours touring around before
checking into our new digs –Crocodylus resort. We had found it intriguing
online and was just as interesting in the flesh. A truly great place for budget
conscious travellers, catering from families in cabins, to backpackers in tent
dorms and everything in between. We stayed in a double room – basically a
square structure divided into four rooms – the 2 dividing walls were fibro and
the other 2 walls plastic and shadecloth. The double bed was covered by a
mosquito net. There was a fantastic common area with loads of tables, benches
and lounge chairs as well as a bar, café and common kitchen for use by guests.
A really fantastic environment and everyone was really friendly.
As we walked down the path towards our room there was a
Cassowary wandering around in the flesh! Iain took photo’s so when I can steal
some from him I will post them up.
I must say that I am feeling very relaxed and so much better
than I was - the Naturopath certainly is
a miracle worker. It appears that so many of the ‘side effects’ of the drugs was in actual fact an
iodine deficiency, causing my thyroid to play up.
